Day trip To Leeds Castle and The Maidstone Gin Dis5llery

Pembury u3a have arranged a trip by coach to Leeds Castle on Monday 7 July. The cost will be £55 per person. Leeds Castle was first mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086. Since then, the castle has had a chequered royal history. The end of the Tudor dynasty marked the beginning of private ownership in 1550. Passing through many different owners whose amendment and changes to the Castle, were varied, making the Castle we see today. Lady Baillie was the last private owner who on her death transferred the Castle and grounds to a charitable foundation The Leeds Castle Foundation. Entry to the Castle is included, but does not include a guided tour. However, audio guides are available. For those with mobility issues there is a free shuttle bus from the carpark to the Castle. After visiting the castle, we drive to Maidstone Distillery. Your tour and tasting experience will last approximately 90 mins and will include the following:-
  • A welcome drink of either the signature George Bishop London Dry Gin and tonic, an alternative low alcohol gin and tonic or a soft drink;
  • An introduction to the town of Maidstone and the historic Market Buildings;
  • The story of English gin and the fascinating role of Maidstone Distillery in ournation’s distilling heritage;
  • An introduction to the Distillery's equipment and the artisan processes used to create the hand crafted spirits;
  • An introduction to the Distillery's spirits including a tasting of a mini Rhubarb andRaspberry gin cocktail and also a Sharp’s Toffee Liqueur.
  • There isa small shop on site and there with be some exclusive shop offers available .
