Ramblers exchanges

A walking group from Arun U3A visited Kent in May for a 3 night stay in Tonbridge. Pauline Hawker was instrumental in inviting the group and making arrangements for accommodation and for the walks which were led by members of Pembury U3A Ramblers.

On arrival, the group enjoyed a short walk around Haysden Country Park, before meeting the next day at Chartwell for a circular 5 mile walk through Westerham.

The walk took us through the delightful hamlet of French Street then through Hosey Common to Westerham for a picnic lunch on the green. After lunch, we passed the site of a water mill before ascending the Greensand Way past Squerryes Court where the picture was taken and back to Chartwell, in time for those who wished to visit the National Trust property.

On the final day, a circular walk from Ightham Mote passed Shipbourne Church to Underriver. We then ascended steeply to One Tree Hill for a picnic lunch while enjoying extensive views over the Weald of Kent. After lunch, we followed the Greensand Way back to Ightham Mote for a well earned cup of tea.
