Walking Cricket

By now, I think you would have heard about our successful Walking Netball Group. This has proved to be great fun and has given us ladies the chance to socialise, laugh and have an hour of exercise all at the same time. However, netball is a winter game so we will be changing our regular twice monthly slot over to Walking Cricket.
If you read the latest edition of Third Age Matters, you will see that this has proved so popular with one of the u3a branches that the BBC featured them on The One Show. So, how does it work?
Firstly, forget the long drawn out boredom of test match cricket.
Forget the heavy bat and rock hard ball.
Forget the incredibly difficult art of overarm bowling - unless you are male!
Forget the monotonous tap, tap, tap.
Forget being stuck in the outfield with nothing to do.
Forget this being a male only sport.
We will play for one hour.
We will have lightweight bats and soft balls.
Bowling can be underarm.
Runs are walked.
Players' positions are changed every two overs so everyone has the chance to move around.
Gents AND ladies are invited to come along.
We will meet at the Recreation Ground on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each summer month,
10.00 - 11.00am. The first session will be on Friday 14th July.
Whether you have played cricket all your life, or have never picked up a bat, do give it a go. It’s a great form of cardio exercise and helps improve agility and hand-eye coordination whilst using up a few calories!
